Chem One Ltd November 2017

After a quiet September in the copper market, October quickly rose 10%. Reports of high demand in China along with lower copper metal inventories shot the market up. We normally see a softer copper market the fourth quarter and although there’s some debate if copper will strengthen or weaken in the next couple of months, the consensus seems to be that prices could further rise in 2018. Copper metal directly impacts Copper Sulfate prices. Although it’s always good to check lead times we should see more availability of our Copper Sulfate crystal sizes. We have additional capacity to fill requests on the larger sizes. These sizes are very seasonal so if everyone wants product at the same time it can be a challenge however we do feel we have addressed many of those challenges to meet our customers’ needs.

Zinc remains at a ten year high impacting Zinc Sulfate and Zinc Oxide prices. There’s high demand on Zinc Sulfate. Call for P&A.

Other commodities are seeing raw material costs impacting prices. Sodium Hydroxide has impacted the Flake price and the Sodium Metasilicate price. Citric Acid remains in flux with the anti-dumping investigation on Thailand, Belgium, and Columbia product.

Chem One will be closed Thursday November 23rd and Friday November 24th.  We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving.

For many of us in the chemical distribution industry that daily deal with the regulations of the chemicals we purchase, store, sell and transport PHMSA’s (Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration) (oCFR) the interactive web-based application that provides guidance and tools to assist when with the federal regulations that affect us is a game changer.  It has been something well used and fortunately not nearly as well worn as the large heavy volumes that we once leafed through on a daily basis.

If you haven’t yet used this tool and are trying to work your way through the voluminous chapters of the Hazardous Materials Standards check it out for both the regulations in their entirety, letters of interpretation, rulemakings and other guidance.  Click here
