Newsletter – August 2018

Chem One Ltd August 2018
Copper and Zinc dropped early in July as concerns over tariffs put a brake on the metal prices. This is a good example how daily and weekly changes can be impacted more by the news of the day rather than supply and demand. When prices change based on the news they can just as quickly reverse. We saw prices drop as tariffs were announced, rebound when no immediate impact was seen, and drop again as more tariffs were announced. Where it will go from here depends on the next round of news and at some point, supply and demand however it remains a good time to purchase Copper Sulfate, Zinc Sulfate, and Zinc Oxide. We are running an Early Take Program for Zinc Sulfate Fertilizer Grade. Call for details including program period, pricing, and extended payment terms! On July 10, 2018, U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) Robert Lighthizer announced that at President Trump’s request, USTR has initiated the process of imposing an additional 10 percent ad valorem duty on approximately $200 billion worth of imports from China. This will potential impact over 6000 lines of commodities including chemicals. Chem One does import some inorganic dry chemicals from China however the bulk of our products come from our partners in Mexico. See our product list with origins. Product List. Although we stock all products plan for truckload volumes.

No changes for August

As you are aware Chem One is completely committed to its health and safety programs in addition to regulatory compliance and environmental initiatives.  Health and Safety can seem daunting for small companies who may not have the resources to fund extensive programs.  OSHA offers many online tools to assist businesses of all sizes and as far as regulations go are one of the easiest and most straightforward to understand and follow.

During the month of August is OSHA’s “Safe and Sound Week, August 13-19, 2018

What Is Safe + Sound Week?
A nationwide event to raise awareness and understanding of the value of safety and health programs that include management leadership, worker participation, and a systematic approach to finding and fixing hazards in workplaces.

Why Participate?
Safe workplaces are sound businesses. Successful safety and health programs can proactively identify and manage workplace hazards before they cause injury or illness, improving sustainability and the bottom line. Participating in Safe + Sound Week can help get your program started or energize an existing one.

Who Is Encouraged to Participate?
Organizations of any size or in any industry looking for an opportunity to show their commitment to safety to workers, customers, the public, or supply chain partners should participate.

How to Participate
Participating in Safe + Sound Week is easy. To get started, select the activities you would like to do at your workplace. You can host an event just for your workers or host a public event to engage your community. Examples of potential activities and tools to help you plan and promote your events are available.
